THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED – and the winner was Tanya Lilley. Congrats!
I never thought I’d become one of those people who really liked shoes.
Growing up I was barefoot half of the time (the rest of the time I was in my tackies or flip flops). But as I’ve developed more than a passing interest in style, shoes have become slightly more important. I’m not going to pretend this is a life and death situation. I understand that most people wear shoes for utility. That some people find shoes, fashion or any of that stuff, a touch frivolous. But I see it differently, and that’s okay.
What we wear can be a way of expressing ourselves, just like the books we choose to keep on our bookshelves, the art we choose to collect, the music we choose to listen to. So I’ve become more comfortable with being interested in fashion, and now I’m just embracing it.
Good shoes change everything about how your outfit looks. They keep you comfortable. And if you look after them, and they’re decent quality, they can last you a really long time. Which brings me to the concept of buying fewer things.
I’m no expert on sustainable or conscious fashion (at all), but I’m trying to learn. Because just as we’ve become more aware of how much plastic we use, or of how what we eat impacts the environment, so too do we need to address what we choose to wear each day.
So for me currently, this means buying fewer, better quality things, and wearing them A LOT. I have a mustard satin skirt from Poetry for example that I’ve now worn over 50 times I reckon, and I’ve only had it a few years;). I’m also trying to mend things that break, repurpose items and share clothing with friends, as well as buy vintage and used pieces, instead of fast fashion all the time.
Pesso shoes are not fast fashion. They are handcrafted in Europe by expert leather makers and you can feel the difference. I’ve been gifted shoes from Pesso for around four years now and I still have every single pair they’ve given me, because they just last and last, never go out of style, and are such excellent quality.
My most recent gift is a pair called the Grama, which are leopard print (LOVE) and have a bit of a heel to add some definition to your legs. Apparently they are their bestseller this summer and they have had to order more to keep up with demand! These look great with shorts, jeans, skirts – you name it.
Pesso also have various lovely styles on sale currently, including my favourite metallic sandals (featured on the right) and some gorgeous pastel sneakers, so have a look.
