At the end of May I was in South Africa to launch our book ‘Small Business – Big Plans’ – and it was a week that exceeded all expectations. Writers will tell you honestly that they dream of attending their own book launch one day: a chance to see their creation in stores, engage with people about the writing process, and celebrate all the hard work that went into it.
I’m so grateful to our networks in Joburg and Cape Town who showed up for us – from long standing clients, to friends, to strangers and family, we didn’t anticipate the numbers (we ran out of chairs) and were blown away by the support (we sold out of books!). In Joburg we were expertly hosted by the co-founder of digital agency Flume Jacques Du Bruyn, and in Cape Town, the talented MC & blogger Terence Mentor (aka AfroDaddy) stepped up to interview us.
We also recorded a podcast with Jacques (which focused on the ‘Art of Starting’), went on radio, lectured at Red & Yellow, met with clients, signed loads of books, connected with amazing people and had many fascinating discussions. It was intense and exciting and a week I’ll never forget (and it seemed to be effective from a sales perspective too, as we made the Top 20 Bestsellers list through tills at Exclusives – a huge surprise). A few pictures from this amazing week are below.
P.S. If you’re reading this now, it’s because you signed up to receive my blog updates a while back – and you may have noticed that my site looks a bit different. This is because I’ve recently updated my blog to become an author site instead, a place where I can house all my writing, and share new pieces as well. Thanks for sticking around during the dry blog years and you’ll be hearing from me much more regularly going forward:)
